The Nevada Rural Housing Authority was recognized in April by the National Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies during its annual conference in San Francisco. NRHA received an award for excellence in the Multifamily category in recognition of the Richards Crossing Supportive Housing project in Carson City. In 2016, NRHA was honored in recognition of the Winnemucca Senior Campus Project in the same category.
Blue Man Group kicked off the Grant a Gift Autism Foundation’s eighth annual Race for Hope and Fun Walk April 29 with a special performance at The Green in Town Square Las Vegas.
Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada has hired Margo Otto as a social worker. Otto will work with patients at CCCN’s Central Valley, Henderson and Southeast Henderson clinics, providing cancer patients and their families with critical psychosocial support as they receive diagnoses and undergo treatments.
In recognition of 76 years of giving help and hope to our community, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada celebrated its seventh annual Heart of Hope Luncheon fundraiser in April at Red Rock Casino. The event placed a special awareness on Meals on Wheels, a program Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada has administered in Las Vegas since 1975. This year’s recipients of the Heart of Hope Award were Thomas Spiegel Family Foundation and MGM Resorts Foundation.
City National has announced that it has provided Three Square Food Bank with a $5,000 donation for this year’s Bag Childhood Hunger Program. The funds from City National’s donation will be matched by the Bennett Family Foundation, which will provide funding for 40,000 meals to families and children in Southern Nevada who are food insecure and hungry. Three Square’s mission is to provide wholesome food to hungry people, while passionately pursuing a hunger-free community. They combine food banking (warehousing canned and boxed goods), food rescue (obtaining surplus or unused meats, bread, dairy and produce from hospitality and grocery outlets), and ready-to- eat meals to be the most complete food solution for Southern Nevada.
Goettl Air Conditioning and The Sunny Plumber named Daniel Bonner vice president of operations. Bonner will be responsible for all plumbing and HVAC operations in the markets Goettl and The Sunny Plumber serve in the Southwest United States, including Las Vegas. Bonner has more than 20 years of operations management experience in the telecom, facility, construction and service industries.
MGM Resorts International and Bank of America came together to build a Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas home on Toshiba Plaza in celebration of T-Mobile Arena’s first anniversary. More than 150 volunteers from Bank of America and MGM Resorts were working all day to construct the framework of a Habitat Las Vegas townhome. Following the build, partner executives, including Bill Hornbuckle and Phyllis A. James of MGM Resorts International, expressed their gratitude to the community for making the arena’s first year a success. Remarks were given by Dan Giraldo from Bank of America, as well as Mike Borden and Douglas Coombs from Habitat Las Vegas who thanked MGM Resorts International and T-Mobile Arena for their support and commitment to the community. The completed townhome framework will remain on Toshiba Plaza throughout the weekend before it is transported to Henderson, where Habitat Las Vegas already has completed 29 homes.

LP Insurance Services Inc. has named Tim Holland its newest shareholder. Holland will continue as an employee benefits sales executive, a role he has served in with distinction since 2011.

The volunteer work of Las Vegas Allstate exclusive agency owners and financial specialists helped secure $17,000 in grants from The Allstate Foundation to support 15 organizations in the Las Vegas area. Each charity received $1,000, except for those noted below, because of the volunteer work of the agency’s staffers and owners:
B&P Advertising wins top awards at Las Vegas ADDYS
Nevada Allstate agency owners earned an award from the Allstate Foundation for their outstanding commitment to community service. Their volunteer efforts helped a local nonprofit earn a $28,000 grant from the Allstate Foundation.
Debby Herman of Nevada State Bank presented a check for $8,718 to the Reno Rodeo Foundation, the charitable arm of the Reno Rodeo, Northern Nevada’s longest-running and largest annual professional sporting event.
