Dignity Health, operators of two major hospitals in Henderson and one in the southwest part of the Valley, is planning four scaled-down neighborhood hospitals offering a new model for care.
The health care giant is planning four new neighborhood hospitals in what it is describing as underserved parts of the Valley. The new model will have significantly fewer in-patient beds at each facility — fewer than 10 at each site — than its existing facilities, which can house between 120 and 330 patients each.
The services offered will be similar to an average emergency department’s offerings but on a smaller scale. Primary care providers — something Dignity said the Las Vegas area is lacking — will also be on-site.
According to a release, Nevada ranks 46th in the nation for its share of primary care providers, family care specialists and pediatricians.
Offerings at the new facilities include an emergency department, an in-patient wing, imaging and quick-access lab services.
Dignity plans on rolling out the new facilities over the next two years. The first locations will open in early 2017 in North Las Vegas. A March 2 groundbreaking is planned at Craig Road and Martin Luther King Boulevard. North Las Vegas has one acute-care facility — North Vista Hospital, which has a bed count of less than 200.
The other three locations are planned at Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard, Blue Diamond and Decatur and at the 215 Beltway and West Flamingo Road. The remaining three locations are expected to come online by the summer of 2017.
The new facilities are expected to bring more than 100 jobs to the valley.
Dignity has entered into a joint-venture agreement with Emerus, a Houston-based hospital owner, which will build and manage the new sites, along with laying out the groundwork for additional facilities throughout Southern Nevada.
