The Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce Foundation has selected 49 members for the 2016 class of Leadership Las Vegas, Southern Nevada’s community leadership development program.
Forty-nine individuals from the public and private sectors were chosen from hundreds of applicants to engage in a 10-month comprehensive program designed for participants to enhance leadership skills, develop deep awareness and understanding of the community and join a network of engaged leaders.
“We could not be more delighted with the group chosen for the 2016 class of Leadership Las Vegas,” Kristin McMillan, president and CEO of the Metro Chamber, said in a statement. “Leadership Las Vegas is designed to educate and engage leaders across Southern Nevada and inspire them to play a role in making this community a better place. Each of the individuals selected for the program this year has demonstrated dedication to our community and we look forward to advancing their engagement even further over this 10-month process.”
The Leadership Las Vegas class of 2016 came together for the first time at Nellis Air Force Base for a unique retreat, setting the stage for a year of in-depth conversations, paradigm-shifting experiences and intensive review of current issues and topics in Southern Nevada.
During the next 10 months, the class of 2016 will explore the region’s history, learn the inner-workings of the Silver State’s government, take a look into the valley’s criminal justice and healthcare systems, get a sense of the community’s various social safety net programs and much more, in an effort to understand the challenges and opportunities facing Southern Nevada.
Through lectures, discussions, on-site visits, simulations, projects and other leadership development activities, Leadership Las Vegas class members are challenged to apply their talents toward Southern Nevada’s issues.
Since 1986, Leadership Las Vegas has graduated more than 1,200 participants, many of whom have gone on to the top of their industry and moved into significant roles in community organizations and government.
The Leadership Las Vegas program is overseen by The Leadership Institute of Las Vegas, an initiative of the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
