Real Estate Expo coming to Cashman Center

Las Vegas homebuilders and real estate professionals will convene in early April at the Real Estate Expo Las Vegas at Cashman Center — a two-day event designed to benefit industry professionals and homebuyers and investors of all types.

The expo is expected to attract thousands of prospective homebuyers each day, Expo Unlimited coordinator Michael Sweeney said.

The event will cover 50,000 square feet, feature 60 exhibitors and be free to the public. It will run 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 8 and 9.

The expo’s layout will mimic the valley’s geography. The entryway will represent Interstate 15 and the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign, officials said.

“Booths will wrap around the 50,000 square feet of floor space laid out in a geographically accurate map of the Las Vegas Valley,” Expo Unlimited spokesman Adam Courrier said. “Attendees can visit booths representing all the valley’s major developments, from downtown Las Vegas to master-planned communities from Summerlin to Green Valley in Henderson.”

Vendors include homebuilders, master-planned communities, real estate companies, real estate agents, mortgage lenders, government agencies and utilities.

The expo will open with the “Las Vegas Housing Outlook,” presented by Home Builder’s Research President Dennis Smith. He, and other special guests, will present statistical and demographic information about the local housing market, along with projections for 2016.

Homebuyers can also learn about purchasing real estate through the event’s 30 informational and educational sessions. Several topics will be covered including homebuying, mortgage financing, financial planning, home technology and homebuyer-asset programs. Continuing education credits for real estate agents and other industry professionals will be available through other sessions.

The event’s primary hosts are Southern Nevada Home Builders Association and the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors. Other sponsors include the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Wendoh Media, Southwest Gas Corp., Running Bull Productions and TrainNTour Real Estate Education.

New hotel near Las Vegas Motor Speedway

The ink has just dried on a deal to build a hotel near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Local development company CAI Investments is set to break ground on its 125-room, Starwood Hotels-branded property in July. Completion is expected in 12 to 14 months.

The $18 million project will rest on Speedway Boulevard, just south of Interstate 15. Under its 20-year agreement with Starwood, Crescent Hotel Management will oversee the property.

CAI Managing Partner Christopher Beavor said the 2½-acre site was chosen for its distance from I-15, the Veterans Affairs Hospital and growing number of manufacturing sites.

The project is expected to create nearly 60 construction jobs and 29 permanent jobs.

Beyond Nevada, CAI has developed projects in Florida, Arizona, California and Croatia.

William E. Franz designed the project; Burke Construction Group Project Manager Patrick Schueppert will manage it.

Insurance wholesaler gets bigger office

Burns & Wilcox, a privately held specialty insurance wholesaler headquartered in Detroit, has moved its Las Vegas operations to a new space at Howard Hughes Center after outgrowing its last location.

In a statement, Burns & Wilcox said it grew considerably over the past several years in its Las Vegas office, expanding its workforce sixfold, leaving a need for more room. The new 6,000-square-foot space triples Burns & Wilcox’s previous space. The company says it plans to double its staff over the next couple of years.

“Our new office enables Burns & Wilcox to further deliver on its promise to provide comprehensive solutions to retail insurance brokers and agents,” Burns & Wilcox Executive Vice President Don Carson said. “We look forward to developing deeper relationships with current and future clients in the region through this expanded presence.”
