C-SUITE: Boyd Erickson, president and owner of FEA Consulting Engineers

Q: What are you reading?

A: “Winning” by Jack Welch (for the third time). I have found this book to contain many valuable insights and strategies that I can relate to in my career — particularly the chapter on “Letting Go Iis Hard to Do.” I have got to learn to trust others more.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant?

A: The Capital Grille. Great place to go for a power lunch or an intimate dinner with my wife. They are always accommodating. I highly recommend the coconut cream pie with house-made caramel sauce for dessert!

Q: How do you decompress after a long week?

A: I try to ride my bike every day. It is a great way for me to relieve stress. On Saturdays, I like to take a long, early-morning bike ride up through the Red Rock Canyon loop and out to Blue Diamond. To me, nothing is more beautiful than the red rock cliffs and mountains and the sights, sounds and smells of the desert landscape that are part of our own backyard — truly, one of the hidden treasures that Las Vegas has to offer.

Q: What is the biggest challenge facing Southern Nevada?

A: Keeping up and preparing for the growth that is happening in our city, communities and schools — particularly over the next five to 10 years. How we as a community handle our resource infrastructure — namely, water, land, public transportation and jobs for our existing and new residents — will impact our potential growth and development. The quality of our schools and accessibility to higher education is always a concern and challenge to a growing population and to me is key to civic pride and unity.
