Marlee Malamut

Marlee Malamut is the director of landside pperations and coordinator for AirSmart. The North Las Vegas-based company provides on-demand private air travel in the West.

Q: What are you reading?

A: I am actively reading the GLEIM Private Pilot FAA Knowledge Test Prep and the 2023 FAR/AIM. Most of my reading is directly related to the fundamentals of flying, along with Federal Aviation Administration regulations as I am obtaining my PPL (private pilot license). I have completed my solo flight, my written exam and currently in the process of flying cross country.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant or place to take clients?

A: With client time restrictions, I have found it more beneficial to provide in-flight treats. Client favorites seems to be Café Breizh, known for their French pastries and danishes and The Bagel Cafe, known for their deli sandwiches and New York-style bagels with an assortment of spreads.

Q: How do you decompress after a long week?

A: To decompress, I enjoy socializing with friends, trying new restaurants and attending concerts and sporting events that Las Vegas has to offer.

Q: What do you do to workout?

A: I find working out to be the best stress reliever. I continually change the types of workouts to challenge myself physically and mentally. Currently, I attend 6 a.m. HITT classes three to four times a week. On the weekends, I prefer outdoor activities.

Q: What is the biggest challenge facing Southern Nevada?

A: From an aviation standpoint, one of the difficulties Southern Nevada has been facing is the increase in air travel to/from Las Vegas. With the recent changes and continued growth of Las Vegas, there has been an increase in commercial flights, as well as private flights. LAS is now requiring custom PPR (prior permission required) codes more often due to high traffic. We are hopeful for the increase in funding to the private airports, including North Las Vegas (VGT) and Henderson Executive (HND) to accommodate this surplus.
