Las Vegas Paving awarded $34 million NDOT contract

Las Vegas Paving Corp., a civil construction company, was recently awarded a nearly $34 million contract with the Nevada Department of Transportation for a widening project along Interstate 15 in North Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Paving will work to widen a 5-mile stretch of road on I-15, from Craig Road to Speedway Boulevard, from four lanes to six in each direction. The company will also install new lighting, signs and landscaping, which will include weathered steel art sculptures.

The job also will involve drainage improvements, widening and seismic upgrades to four overpass structures at Range Road and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.

“The project will improve safety and mobility through the northern Interstate 15 corridor, greatly reducing travel times and congestion,” Transportation Department Director Rudy Malfabon said. “It will also enhance traffic flows entering and exiting the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which is especially crucial during NASCAR events and the Electric Daisy Carnival.”

Work on the project is to begin in August and finish in early 2018.

The region now sees 41,600 vehicles daily, which is expected to grow by 71 percent by 2033.

The 18-month project is expected to bring up to 100 construction workers to the site at the peak of its activity.

In a statement, KLA said it will focus on the casino, convention and hospitality sectors through its regional office. The company’s clients include Ford Motor Co., Verizon Wireless, and Cisco.

Local CPA firm could gain global

resources, support

Las Vegas-based CPA firm Johnson Advisors could soon have more global resources to serve its clientele.

U.K.-based IAPA International, a global association of independent accountancy and business advisory companies, signed a letter of intent last month to join forces with U.S.-based Allinial Global, a similar association to which Johnson Advisors belongs.

The new partnership between the associations would create the third-largest entity of that type in the world, consisting of 300 member firms across 79 countries and have an annual fee revenue of more than $2.6 billion.

“The combination of two premier, far-reaching associations will lead to even greater opportunities for serving our clients, especially when it comes to meeting their international needs,” Johnson Advisors Managing Partner Gary Johnson said.

The proposed merger is subject to the execution of a definitive agreement with board and membership approval. The action is expected to go through by the end of 2016, if approved.
