Two sessions seek thoughts for downtown master plan

Las Vegans are invited to share their vision for downtown Las Vegas as the city continues its community outreach on an updated downtown master plan.

Two public outreach events are scheduled for May 14 at World Market Center to solicit community ideas on challenges and opportunities facing downtown Las Vegas.

Participants will be able to weigh in on a proposed vision for the area. These events are part of a community outreach campaign that began last fall and has included more than 100 interviews of downtown stakeholders and two public meetings in January.

Participation in these events is free, and open to valley residents 18 and older. Free parking will provided in the surface lot.

LandWell donates acres

The LandWell Co., the Henderson-based real estate development division of Basic Management Inc., donated a 14-acre parcel of land to Lake Mead Christian Academy.

The new campus is an expansion of the academy’s existing 5.6-acre location on Lake Mead Parkway, which also includes land that The LandWell Co. donated in 1995.

The campus will serve grades seven through 12. Its first phase will include an academic building with 25 classrooms, a multipurpose room and a sports field.

“Lake Mead Christian Academy has a reputable name in our community and this partnership not only marks the expansion of the school, but also of our long-standing relationship,” LandWell Co. CEO Mark Paris said in a statement. “Lake Mead Christian Academy will soon call Cadence ‘home’ and as (the) Cadence (master-planned community) grows, we will continue to consider options to further boost the education offerings in Henderson.”

The first phase of construction has begun and the new campus is scheduled to open in August 2016.

“We are very grateful to The LandWell Co. for (its) continued support and specifically for this donation, which is two and a half times more land than our existing school — holding so much promise for the youth of Henderson,” Lake Mead Christian Academy administrator Sue Blakeley said in a statement. “We have served students since 1989 and the expansion of our campus provides us the opportunity to broaden our commitment to the community.”
