Dave & Buster’s to open first Nevada location in Summerlin

Downtown Summerlin could start packing in more sports fans and entertainment seekers this summer.

Houston-based Dave & Buster’s — a restaurant chain known for high-definition televisions for watching sports and midway and arcade games — plans to open a 33,000-square-foot restaurant this summer at 1980 Festival Plaza Drive in Downtown Summerlin.

“Dave & Buster’s is widely regarded as a premier entertainment brand and one we are pleased to welcome as another first-in-Nevada location at Downtown Summerlin,” said Andrew Ciarrocchi, senior general manager for Downtown Summerlin. “We anticipate Dave & Buster’s to be a strong draw for area adults and families seeking a truly immersive entertainment experience created by delicious food and interactive fun.”

The company has 82 locations nationwide.

American Casino & Entertainment Properties’ fourth-quarter revenue rises

American Casino & Entertainment Properties LLC, the Stratosphere’s parent company, reported a surge in fourth-quarter earnings compared with a year earlier, buoyed by its Southern Nevada holdings.

ACEP, which also owns the two Arizona Charlie’s properties in Las Vegas, and Aquarius in Laughlin, had a net income of $3.3 million in its fourth quarter, which ended Dec. 31, up from $200,000 a year earlier.

In its fourth-quarter filing, the company said a $2.1 million loss on asset disposal hurt the year-earlier result.

Fourth-quarter net revenue for the Stratosphere rose 13.8 percent from a year earlier. Net revenue across all holdings rose 5.3 percent to $89.3 million from $84.8 million.

American Casino’s year-over-year net revenue has increased in each of the last eight quarters. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization, a measure of cash flow, has increased in year-over-year in seven out of eight quarters.

The Stratosphere had gains in hotel revenue of 23 percent, helped by a 9.4 percent increase in occupancy and a 12.4 percent increase in the average daily room rate over 2014. Food and beverage revenue at the property increased 8.6 percent. Casino revenue increased 16.6 percent, helped by increased slot and table game revenue.

Arizona Charlie’s Decatur and Boulder posted a combined fourth-quarter net revenue decline of 0.9 percent. The combined casino revenues fell 2.4 percent, hurt by a decline in slot and bingo hold, the filing stated.

Fourth-quarter net revenue at the Aquarius decreased 3.1 percent from a year earlier as hotel occupancy and casino revenue dipped.

American Casino is not publicly traded, but it has publicly held debt.

State adopts cannabis regulatory software

Nevada recently partnered with a Colorado-based firm to help track the state’s cannabis industry.

MJ Freeway, providers of seed-to-sale tracking software for the cannabis market, has signed a five-year agreement with the state of Nevada to implement its secure, Web-based application, Leaf Data Systems. The system was designed to help regulators gain visibility into licensed cannabis companies around the state.

“We selected MJ Freeway because of their extensive cannabis industry experience and a deep commitment to Nevada’s compliance program,” said Steve Gilbert, Division of Public and Behavioral Health program manager.

The Leaf system was designed to help inspectors obtain data and aid in solutions on where to deploy enforcement efforts. The system covers aspects of regulation across the entire industry spectrum, including licenses dispensaries, cultivators and processors.

MJ Freeway will begin to roll out the system with the Division of Public and Behavioral Health — the body in charge of the state’s medical marijuana program — in July. The implementation will include in-depth workshops.

On the operator side, the state requires the use of an inventory tracking system. Cannabis businesses have an option to use MJ’s software products for compliance. Leaf Data Systems also contains an application program interface to allow for integration of outside software vendor systems.
