HeART of Giving gala raises $300,000

Ronald McDonald House on Oct. 17 celebrated its 17th annual HeART of Giving gala with more than 300 guests, raising more than $300,000 for families who depend on Ronald McDonald House. The evening at the Keep Memory Alive Events Center had a rock ‘n’ roll theme and honored Southwest Medical Associates for its ongoing impact in the community.

Easter Seals Nevada fundraiser

Easter Seals Nevada is hosting its fifth annual Cheers to Chocolate benefit on Friday, Nov. 20, from 6 to 9 p.m. at The District, 2225 Village Walk Dr. Proceeds will assist those with disabilities. For the first time, Cheers to Chocolate will include an auction of cakes from more than a dozen bakeries. Tickets are $30 advance online; $35 at the door for adults. Pupils learn about business, money

Nearly 30 Bank of America employees recently taught kindergarten through fifth-grade students at Pat Diskin Elementary School. With the curriculum varying by grade, students were introduced to aspects of business, money and budgeting. Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada’s interactive JA in a Day program recruits and trains volunteers to teach students in the engaging one-day event.

Firefighters raise money for research

Henderson Professional Fire Fighters teamed up with the Henderson Firefighter Benevolent Association to raise $3,500 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Firefighters sold “Go Pink for the Cure” T-shirts within the organization and to community members, and wore the shirts on duty throughout October to help raise awareness.

Fountain donations to support HELP

Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood is collecting donations in its fountain throughout November for HELP of Southern Nevada, advancing its mission to help homeless or low-income families attain self-sufficiency through direct services, training and referral to community resources. All change tossed in Miracle Mile Shops’ fountain, as well as the indoor rainstorm, will benefit HELP of Southern Nevada.

Tivoli Village hosts Make-A-Wish benefit

Tivoli Village hosted a community dinner Oct. 18 to benefit Make-A-Wish of Southern Nevada. More than 100 guests gathered for a five-course meal prepared by some of the city’s brightest culinary stars. Proceeds were donated specifically in support of 9-year-old Emma Thurgood, who has a malignant neoplasm of the kidney. Thurgood’s dream is to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios. Additionally, enough money was raised through the silent auction to fund another wish through the foundation.

Boyd Gaming donates $10,000

The Susan G. Komen Foundation of Southern Nevada was presented with $10,000 by Boyd Gaming properties including The Orleans, Suncoast, Gold Coast and Sam’s Town. The ceremony was Oct. 30 at the Suncoast.

Festival raises $5,800 for animal shelters

The annual Family, Fur & Fun Festival raised in excess of $5,800 to benefit animal shelters in Southern Nevada. The event at Exploration Park in the Mountain’s Edge master-planned community was to create awareness about adopting abandoned and neglected animals and proper care for pets.
