U.S. Small Business Administration is hosting a free contracting workshop from 9 a.m.-noon, at Nevada District Office, 300 S. Fourth St., Suite 400. The event will include new federal laws and program updates, new federal laws affecting small business and new federal contracting laws when preparing solicitations and performing project work, recent bid and size protest decisions, teaming agreements, factors to consider when pursuing joint ventures, understanding the legal requirements, financial and other potential risks before forming a teaming or joint venture agreement, and learning how to find the right joint venture and mentor partners. The Southern Nevada Home Builders Association will hold its post-Legislature program from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at The Orleans hotel conference center, 4500 W Tropicana Ave. The association’s lobbying team will discuss the impact of the 2015 Legislature. The panelists are Nat Hodgson, the association’s executive director and lead lobbyist; Joshua Hicks, an association attorney and lobbyist with the law firm Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck; and Matt Walker, the association’s government relations director and lobbyist. $30 event fee. AUGUST 29

The 29th annual Black &White Party benefiting Aid for AIDS of Nevada will be from 9 p.m.-1 a.m., with VIP entry at 8 p.m., at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel, 4455 Paradise Road. Festivities will include entertainment from DJ Axis, Boiis, Brandon Godfrey, The Sound Collage and The Perry Twins on the DJ decks. Tickets are all-inclusive and also grant admission to the following day’s Temptation Sundays pool party at Luxor. Proceeds will go to AFAN’s client services to benefit children and adults in the community affected by HIV/AIDS. Tickets are $50; $130 VIP with early entry available at afanlv.org.
