Founder of JW Advisors appointed to foundation

Kirk Jacobson, founder and partner of Las Vegas-based consulting firm JW Advisors, was appointed by the Nevada Supreme Court to serve on the Nevada Bar Foundation board of directors as the organization’s only nonattorney director. The Nevada Bar Foundation serves as the State Bar of Nevada’s charitable arm, raising money to direct legal services to the poor, domestic violence victims and to children needing education programs such as We the People, Project Citizen and the Mock Trial program. Jacobson, a Las Vegas native, is an associate member of the Clark County Bar Association, and has been a member of the Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants since 1982.

Goforth joins legal administrators committee

Marilyn Goforth, Kolesar &Leatham’s legal administrator, will be serving on the national planning committee for the Association of Legal Administrators’ 2016 Annual Conference and Expo next spring in Los Angeles. The conference offers legal managers the opportunity for professional development. Goforth has been active in the association’s Las Vegas chapter for many years. Under her leadership, the local chapter increased its membership and sponsorships.

TISOH’s Lam named president of catering and events foundation

Timothy M. Lam, executive director of The International School of Hospitality, has been named president of the Foundation of the National Association for Catering and Events. Lam, a founding member of the school, served in 2014 as vice president of the foundation. The foundation is the association’s charitable arm. The school attracts future hospitality leaders globally, allowing students the opportunity to learn from experts working in the field.

Adult Education advocate named to lead region

The National Adult Education Organization has named Rhea Watson, an adult education advocate and literacy trainer for the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, as the Region 7 representative for the Commission on Adult Education. Watson joins three other officers on the 14-member voting board. She’ll assume her role July 1. The commission seeks to raise awareness of the effects of adult education, and also to support adult learners and educators across the country. Watson will represent Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming at national board meetings.
