Attorney named to award panel

Russel J. Geist of the Hutchison & Steffen law firm has been appointed to the advisory board of the Congressional Award Council of Nevada. He was previously appointed legal counsel and a member of the board of directors. Geist handles cases concerning will, trust and probate disputes, asset protection, business planning, corporate and commercial law, and estate planning. The National Congressional Award for young Americans is awarded in four program areas: volunteer public service, personal development, physical fitness, and expedition/exploration.

Marketing efforts honored

The Firm Public Relations & Marketing was the recipient of four 2015 Hermes Creative Awards. For its work in partnership with Three Square Food Bank on “Go Orange Day 2014,” The Firm received a platinum award in the PR campaign category. The Firm’s work with Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada was awarded twice, with a platinum award for television placement for a segment featuring an oncologist on NBC’s “Today” show and honorable mention for newspaper placement for a series of articles discussing a clinical trial. Also, David Copperfield’s unveiling of his namesake slot machine earned The Firm a gold award for special event for its work with Bally Technologies. MGM Resorts International won a platinum award in benefits for its annual enrollment campaign and a gold award-benefits for its direct care health plan campaign. Hermes Creative Awards are selected from a pool of 6,000 entries from across the United States and 22 other countries and are administered by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.

Junior Achievement adds to board

Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada, an organization dedicated to preparing young people for success in the global economy, has added eight members to its board of directors: Anna Cavalieri, vice president and business banking manager, Wells Fargo Bank; Barbara Vlahakis, senior vice president, site leader, Bank of America; Bill Kurr, Las Vegas market president and CEO, Clear Channel Outdoor; Eddy Chaltiel, CEO, Victoire Ventures; James Moore, vice president and area manager, Bank of the West; Joyce Smith, senior vice president and regional manager, Bank of Nevada; Karie Hall, vice president and general manager, the Cromwell; and Melissa Fernandez, corporate reporting manager, NV Energy.

Smith joins foundation board

Matt Smith, founder of Matt Smith Physical Therapy, has been appointed to the Latin Chamber of Commerce Foundation Board, which helps in furthering the education of local youth through scholarships. Smith will sit on the board with Otto Merida, president of the Latin Chamber of Commerce, and Peter Guzman, president of the Latin Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation.

Two re-elected to Mob Museum board

Richard Bryan and John Mowbray, directors in the Las Vegas law office of Fennemore Craig, have been re-elected to the board of directors of the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement — the Mob Museum. Bryan focuses his practice on government relations at the federal, state and local levels, particularly in the area of public land use issues. Mowbray concentrates on commercial litigation.

NV Energy honored for arts support

Americans for the Arts has named NV Energy as one of the top 10 businesses in the United States for helping its community arts blossom and thrive. Community support has been a part of NV Energy’s culture for more than 100 years. In 1987, the company established a charitable foundation and support of the arts has been a part of the NV Energy Foundation’s giving strategy since. The NV Energy Foundation has committed $3.4 million to arts and culture initiatives in Nevada in the past 10 years. NV Energy is the first business in Nevada to receive this honor. The award will be presented Oct. 6 at a black-tie gala at the Central Park Boathouse in New York City

Wynn VP joins board

Carrie Messina, vice president of human resources at Wynn, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada. The club has also created a partnership with Wynn that will provide 150 of the resort’s employees with free memberships and discounted program fees. The Boys & Girls Club offers affordable out-of-school care to kids 5 to 18 years of age, providing a safe place for them to learn, receive a healthy meal and build community.

Vegas PBS wins development award

 

Vegas PBS received the PBS Development Award for “Special Achievement” in July for its workforce training program. The honor was given at the Public Media Development & Marketing Conference in Washington, D.C. The Vegas PBS workforce initiative delivers job training and education to Nevadans while assisting the state in economic diversification. The program has grown to provide more than 5,000 online continuing education and professional development courses, as well as 330 career certifications for in-demand occupations. The PBS Development award for “Special Achievement” recognizes stations that generate net revenue through innovative ideas or expansions on fundraising efforts which could be replicated by other stations.

 

Law firm wins diversity honor

 

Holland & Hart LLP has received Chevron Law Function’s 2015 Law Firm Diversity Recognition Award, one of three law firms recognized at the awards ceremony July 1. Chevron annually recognizes its law firm partners who have distinguished themselves by demonstrating commitment to diversity. Chevron will also donate $5,000 in Holland & Hart’s name to a non-profit legal organization. The firm has selected the Minority Corporate Counsel Association in support of their advocacy work for the expanded hiring, retention, and promotion of minority attorneys in corporate law departments and the law firms that serve them. MCCA research addresses issues of race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability status, and generational differences that impact the legal profession’s workforce.
