Registration funds from “Entertaining Ethics,” sponsored by Bank of Nevada, a division of Western Alliance Bank, will benefit four charities, including Nevada Foundation for Consumer Education, Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, Southern Nevada Senior Law Program and Nevada Legal Services. Food drive aids Ronald McDonald House

The Las Vegas community came together Feb. 9 for the 15th annual food drive for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas. Residents donated more than 16,500 pounds of food and supplies, valued at over $28,000 at local Smith’s stores. Raffle ticket sales, donations and gift cards totaled over $12,000, and the Nevada Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee presented a check for $500.

More than 250 volunteers came out to help, from greeting shoppers to collecting donations. Ronald McDonald himself visited Smith’s at Maryland Parkway and Silverado Ranch, where he accepted a $1,000 check from Smith’s on behalf of the Ronald McDonald House Charities. The overflow of food went to two organizations who also volunteered — Vegas Youth Ambassadors and the Ninth Island Aunties.

The Ronald McDonald House of Greater Las Vegas provides a “home away from home” for families who must travel to Las Vegas to receive critical medical treatment for their children.

The food, supplies and cash donations will help provide for the families who stay at Ronald McDonald House all year.

DC Building Group teams with Nevada Title

DC Building Group and Nevada Title Co. collected new and gently used children’s books for donation to Clark County School District schools. Throughout February, residents dropped off books appropriate for children in grades K-5 at several locations.

The books were donated to local CCSD schools prior to Nevada Reading Week, an annual initiative for teachers and librarians to celebrate reading among students, Feb. 29 – March 4, coinciding with with the birthday of Dr. Seuss. This year’s theme was “Read Explore And Discover.”

The books will be used by children to practice reading, then kept by the school libraries for use throughout the year.

Nevada Title Co. has helped one of the schools, Ira J. Earl Elementary School, for 17 years as part of a partnership with the Clark County School District Focus School Project.
