Union Village to add senior living community

A Texas-based development, construction and property management company entered into an agreement in early April to construct a senior living village at Union Village in Henderson.

Franklin Cos., specializing in senior and multifamily residential properties, signed an agreement with Union Village LLC to construct a $60 million, 400,000-square-foot senior community inside the 170-acre health care complex at U.S. Highway 95 at Galleria Drive and Russell Road.

“Union Village will be the most unique and creative solution to a comprehensive senior wellness village in the United States and will be the model for the future,” said Aubra Franklin, chairman and CEO of Franklin Companies. “Franklin Companies is honored and delighted to bring Franklin Park Senior Living to the vibrant community of Henderson and the greater Las Vegas area.”

Franklin Park, the future name of the village, will contain 150 units for independent living, 75 units for assisted living and 50 units dedicated to memory care. Construction is pegged to begin later this year.

This latest build adds onto the neighboring Henderson Hospital project, a 142-bed, acute-care facility, which was also the first development to break ground in the village in late 2014.

That’s on schedule to come up by the end of the year. The facility will be the sixth Valley Health System hospital in Southern Nevada.

The hospital and senior center are just a part of the upcoming plans for the planned $1.2 billion project. Union Village also is planning to see housing, retail and entertainment developments in the future, including Las Vegas Athletic Club’s 95,000-square-foot gym on 10 acres.

TPC Summerlin opens lifestyle center

TPC Summerlin, host of the PGA Tour’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, is celebrating its 25th anniversary with the recent grand opening of a new multimillion-dollar lifestyle center, along with improved amenities and updated programming.

The added center and activities come as part of a positive shift in health-conscious activities across the U.S. In 2015, the International Health, Racquet &Sportsclub Association reported a 6.1 percent increase in industry revenue.

“Our main priority at TPC Summerlin is to make sure our members are satisfied with our programs and the quality of our amenities,” said Lee Smith, TPC Summerlin general manager and director of golf. “We noticed a transition in their (members’) desires, so we adapted. We hope these changes will benefit our current members, their families and the Summerlin community, which has graciously allowed us to grow in this way.”

The project brings exercise equipment, a family swimming pool, nutrition planning, child care and other offerings. Members also will get access to the club’s new poolside amenities including ping-pong tables, foosball and 18-foot TV screen.

Owners of the D Las Vegas expand their downtown presence

Derek and Greg Stevens, who already own D Las Vegas, Golden Gate, Las Vegas Club, Downtown Las Vegas Events Center and another downtown property, have expanded their name further in the downtown area.

The Stevens purchased property adjacent to the Las Vegas Club, where they’re planning to build a new hotel. The property, which was purchased for an undisclosed sum from Granite Gaming Group in late April, houses Mermaids and La Bayou casinos and Topless Girls of Glitter Gulch. The properties will continue to operate until June 27, when they are scheduled to shut down. Current employees of the properties will be given priority interview opportunities for new positions at the D and Golden Gate.

“We are very excited to work with Granite Gaming Group on this transaction,” said Derek Stevens. “I’ve always believed the whole is larger than the sum of its parts and this real estate acquisition provides a great opportunity for the future of downtown Las Vegas.”

Las Vegas firms honored

The American Council of Engineering Companies awarded Las Vegas firms Walter P Moore and Associates Inc. and LGA for work the firms performed on the Spring Mountain Visitor Gateway Project. The firms received the National Recognition Award, part of American Council’s 2016 Engineering Excellence Awards competition.

Walter P Moore served as the structural engineer on the project, and LGA was the architect.

“The Spring Mountain Visitors Gateway project exemplifies exactly who we are and what we as a firm value,” said Craig Galati, principal at LGA. “This award means a lot to us. We were honored that Walter P Moore submitted the project for this award.”
