Utah investor buys 120 units in Henderson

Peak Capital Partners, a Utah-based apartment investment and management company, has acquired Don Dawson Court and Henderson Manor apartment communities in Henderson.

Each property has 60 units with one-bedroom, one-bath floor plans. The communities also use the Low Income Housing Tax Credit federal housing program in an effort to make rent affordable to lower income senior citizens.

“Henderson is an especially attractive community for retirees due to its tax climate and low crime rate,” Chris Manning, a managing director at Peak, said in a statement. “The abundance of outdoor activities is another appealing element of Henderson. With these acquisitions, Peak now owns six apartment communities in Nevada.”

The price was not disclosed.

Since its inception in 2007, Peak Capital Partners and its affiliates own and manage 90 conventional, affordable, and student apartment communities in 15 states.

Haggan cuts back

Haggen, a West Coast regional grocer that recently opened seven locations across Las Vegas and Henderson, said that in order to continue to improve its business and strengthen its competitive position, it will close or sell a number of locations in California, Arizona, Oregon and Washington.

Most of the stores being closed or sold were acquired as part of the transaction in which Albertsons LLC and Safeway divested 146 stores. Additional stores will be sold or closed in the future as part of Haggen’s right-sizing strategy. The company has not determined how many jobs will be affected as a result of the closures and sales.

“Haggen’s goal going forward is to ensure a stable, healthy company that will benefit our customers, associates, vendors, creditors, stakeholders as well as the communities we serve,” Haggen CEO Pacific Southwest, Bill Shaner, said in a statement. “By making the tough choice to close and sell some stores, we will be able to invest in stores that have the potential to thrive under the Haggen banner.”

Through the acquisition, the Bellingham, Wash.-based grocer expanded from 18 stores with 16 pharmacies and 2,000 employees in the Pacific Northwest to 164 stores and 106 pharmacies employing more than 10,000 people in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada and Arizona.

“We’re grateful to have an outstanding team along with the support of our vendor partners, financial backers and friends in the community as we take our next steps forward,” John Clougher, Haggen CEO Pacific Northwest, said in a statement. “Looking ahead, we will work hard every single day to earn the trust and business of our guests. We will offer our customers the freshest and most local products we can find and the genuine service they deserve. And we will engage in lively discussions about how we can improve. We will remain actively involved in making our communities even better, and we will stay committed to the values that have always guided Haggen.”

Intellicare expands

Intelicare Direct, a customer service solutions company with offices in Las Vegas and San Diego, is opening a third location in San Jose, Calif.

Locally, Intelicare Direct is at 4330 S. Valley View Blvd., Suite 114, in Las Vegas.

The San Jose location is scheduled to open on Sept. 2.

“We are excited to be creating over 350 jobs in the Bay Area as we pursue our goal of providing the world’s best customer service experience for our clients,” Gabriel Bristol, president and CEO of Intelicare Direct, said in a statement. “It’s important to us that as we grow, this work continues to be performed in the U.S. and San Jose, the heart of Silicon Valley and a bustling hub of technology, is just the place to do it.”

Intelicare Direct is known for letting employees bring their children and pets to the office.

“Customer service workers have long been denied the kind of respect they deserve. Without these hard working agents, most companies simply couldn’t function, and yet too often they’re relegated to the basements with sub-par equipment and even poorer working conditions,” Bristol said. “All too often these jobs are shipped off to parts of the world where the work can be done for pennies on the dollar. This fails to recognize the importance of their contribution and this new location has been built to serve as a paradigm shift in that thinking.”

Bristol will have grown the company from 60 employees working out of a warehouse to an estimated 800 employees by the end of the year.

“Intelicare Direct has built and maintains a strong and supportive company culture where employees’ happiness comes first and success is measured by more than the number of calls handled. Commerce and compassion can reside in the same space,” he said. “We attribute our success to our people and look forward to continuing to reform the call center corporate culture.”
