Veer Towers passes $100 million in sales

It doesn’t seem interest in condos on the Strip is waning.

Pordes Residential Sales and Marketing hit a watermark at CityCenter’s Veer Towers, where it reached the $100 million sales mark in early March.

The two-tower project has moved 25 units since December, when it reached the 200-closings mark.

Pordes has been marketing the 37-story towers since early 2013, when MGM Resorts International retained the company to revive sales, which virtually stopped in the recession.

Veer Towers opened in 2009. MGM Resorts sold about a third of the 670 units but had trouble moving anything beyond that thanks to prices that went as high as $12 million.

Today, Veer’s prices top out at a little more than $2 million.

“This major milestone is proof that the Las Vegas condo market is flourishing once again,” said Mark Pordes, CEO of Pordes Residential. “Veer Towers is a trophy property that is being offered at an incredible price point.”

Grand Bazaar beats target

When the Grand Bazaar Shops at Bally’s debuted for business on Feb. 26, the shopping center opened under budget and almost a month ahead of schedule, according to its contractor, the Penta Building Group.

Delivering wasn’t easy: The job was at one of the city’s busiest intersections, at Flamingo Road and the Strip. Beyond auto traffic, Penta had to work around the 60,000 pedestrians a day who walk past the site.

The contractor had to schedule materials deliveries overnight, from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Penta also spent nearly a year working with the project’s owners on options to maximize leasing spaces and meet budget demands.

The project, which employed 120 at peak construction and has 1,000 permanent employees, has more than 120 shops in spaces ranging from 150 square feet to 2,400 square feet. Construction included 26,500 square feet of food, bar and restaurant space and the installation of specially designed metal canopies.

“The Penta Building Group is proud of the role we played to help this project come to completion, and the challenges we overcame throughout the process,” said Joel Wallis, senior vice president of operations.

NAIOP hosting debate

NAIOP Southern Nevada will host a mayoral candidates’ debate at its March 19 meeting.

The event will feature Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, who’s running for her second term, and Las Vegas Mayor Pro Temp Anthony Stavros, who’s looking to unseat Goodman following the city’s efforts to build a publicly funded stadium downtown.

Carpenter Sellers Del Gatto Architects is sponsoring the debate, which is part of a luncheon at 11:30 inside the convention center at The Orleans at 4500 W. Tropicana Ave.
