HopeLink’s SeniorLink gets $80,000 foundation grant
SeniorLink, a program that provides assistance to low-income and impoverished residents ages 55 and older through HopeLink of Southern Nevada, was granted $80,000 to support and expand services for next year. The Engelstad Family Foundation reviewed the HopeLink program and awarded the 24-year-old family resource center funding for more than 20 free senior services, including assistance for rent, deposit and utilities.
Pingpong tournament hosted by NBA star Chris Paul
IHG Rewards Club is presenting the third annual TopSpin Charity Ping Pong Tournament from 6-10 p.m. July 18, at Lagasse’s Stadium inside the Palazzo, with eight-time NBA All-Star Chris Paul as host. Tucker, John Wallace, CJ Watson, Jerome Williams and Mike Woodson are all confirmed to appear. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the Chris Paul Family Foundation, Jump for Joy Foundation and TopSpin. Bank of America hosts July Back-to-School drive
Bank of America is hosting a valleywide school drive for the fifth year. The drive through July 31, benefits Sandy Miller Elementary School, Monaco Middle School and Ann Lynch Elementary School. In four years, the drive collected and delivered more than 33,000 items. Collection receptacles are stationed at the 50-plus Bank of America centers throughout Southern Nevada. Desired supplies include paper, backpacks, pens and pencils, physical education equipment and school uniform apparel.
New headquarters to open this month for Children First
Southern Nevada Children First, which addresses the needs of Nevada’s homeless, pregnant and parenting youth and young adults, will be in its new home this month, thanks to the partnership of Station Casinos and Grand Canyon Development Partners. The facility is at 3755 W. Lake Mead Blvd., North Las Vegas. Station Casinos donated more than $100,000 toward construction costs for the 20,000-square-foot facility, and is donating the building to the nonprofit organization rent free. Grand Canyon Development Partners is handling the construction management at no charge, overseeing the conversion of restrooms for Americans with Disabilities Act compliance, the roofing repairs and remodeling. The project is valued at $115,000.
