Letter from the publisher

What does being green mean to you? Our recent Green Awards call for nominations turned up many local companies and individuals who embrace a variety of green sustainable practices within their organizations. They are conserving energy, recycling waste and reducing pollution, and most importantly, they are all working to improve our planet and our lives.

In the following pages, you will have a chance to meet the recipients of this year’s Green Awards.

Now in our eighth year of celebrating local companies and professionals for their green initiatives, it is obvious they know how to gain a return on their green investment and are proving green is definitely not a fad.

The individuals you will read about here not only lead sustainability practices for their companies, they are community outreach advocates for green solutions in our homes and schools as well as in our businesses. Tracy Skenandore, the lead green champion for Republic Services, is a shining example. Tracy with co-founder Annette Buback began GreenFest, a community outreach initiative. The annual event is a community celebration introducing consumers to the many green products and solutions they can incorporate into their lives.

Is it time to consider greening your company? You may want to consider connecting with the green organizations that are bringing together like-minded professionals to share information and inspiration. The three who have been our promotional partners for the Green Awards are Green Alliance, Green Chips and the U.S. Green Building Council.

Have you answered my question in your mind — what does green mean to you? If not, maybe they can help you clarify your answer in ways that are meaningful and generate a return on investment for your business.

Naturally,
