Cure 4 The Kids Foundation is seeking the assistance of local retailers, grocery stores and restaurants to meet the needs of patients, their families and medical staff during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Primary concerns are with the clinic’s medical staff who must remain healthy to continue providing medical treatment; pediatric cancer patients and others who have compromised immune systems and are highly susceptible to disease; and patient families who must protect their own health in order to keep their childhood cancer patient as healthy as possible.
In order to protect the health of medical staff and ensure their ability to continue providing treatment, Cure 4 The Kids Foundation has ordered medical staff to self-isolate while away from the clinic, and avoid long lines at grocery stores and other retailers. These gathering places can put clinic staff at risk for picking up viruses that could easily prevent them from serving our patients whose lives depend on continued cancer treatment.
The same is true for family members of our patients. All pediatric cancer patients and others affected by life-threatening childhood diseases have compromised immune systems, making them highly susceptible to infection and unable to fight off disease. The only way to reduce this risk is to ask family members to be extremely cautious.
Clinic staff and volunteers are making arrangements with a number of companies and organizations to get specific items to the clinic so that medical staff and families of patients can access those items and avoid large gatherings of people.
We are incredibly grateful to the following companies who are assisting Cure 4 The Kids Foundation at this time, including:
• Alkawonder Water (9.4pH), which donated one pallet of water.
• Sam Mills Trade, which is donating up to 25 cases of gluten-free pasta.
• Levy Restaurants in T-Mobile Arena, which is donating cases of snacks, juices, soda and sparkling water.
• Shawn Nason of Mofi, which made a significant donation to help cover unforeseen expenses encountered by clinic staff and patient families.
• Fit Fuel Meal Prep and chef Nicasio Martinez for providing pre-made meals for the entire clinic staff for the next few weeks.
• Albertsons Summerlin, which provided 30 grocery bags full of food and other items for clinic staff at a substantial discount.
• Central Christian Church and Michael Kitchen and Jenny Hogan, who donated groceries for 100 people to the clinic.
Additional areas where we are finding solutions for our patients:
Some of our patient families rely on public transportation to get to our clinic and to grocery stores. We are working with these families — and paying for their transportation — so they can continue with medical appointments and receive food and other necessities.
Some patient families have lost their jobs and their medical insurance or were uninsured prior to the COVID-19 outbreak. Cure 4 The Kids Foundation, through our Patient Care Program, serves all patients including those who are uninsured, underinsured or unable to pay for specialized medical treatment. That has not changed.
Grocery stores, retailers, restaurants and others that wish to support our clinic staff and families with donations of food, cleaning items or other necessities, can call Karen Iglesias at 702-691-5702 for additional information about the needs of clinic staff and patient families.
