Nevada State College student and McDonald’s restaurant employee Jaclyn Southam was awarded a $2,500 McDonald’s National Employee Scholarship Award.

Southam is among several McDonald’s employees nationwide selected to receive this honor for their outstanding contributions, scholastic achievements and community involvement.

Southam joined the McDonald’s team in December 2012. James Vance, owner/operator of nine McDonald’s restaurants in Southern Nevada, recommended Southam to receive the scholarship.

Since 2002, Southern Nevada McDonald’s owner/operators have contributed $1.7 million to the Ronald McDonald House Charities scholarship program.

celebrates new class with ceremony

College of Southern Nevada celebrated a new class of nursing assistants in July at the CSN Charleston Campus with a traditional pinning ceremony. 74 new nursing assistants completed their coursework and are now ready to join the ranks of professional nursing assistants in the state. Over the last two academic years, CSN has seen nearly 1,000 new nursing assistants enter the workforce. The pinning ceremony is a tradition at many colleges to signify the graduates’ entry into the professional medical community.
