BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: Two By Two Pet Support

Viewing pets as members of the family is a growing global trend — and rightfully so. The more time we spend with our furry companions, the deeper our love and attachment become. When they fall ill or near the end of their lives, it’s only natural to want the very best for them.

Two by Two Pet Support provides a white-glove, compassionate service designed to support local pet owners during some of the most delicate moments in their pets’ lives. From peaceful in-home euthanasia to the respectful handling of deceased pets, cremation coordination and daily transportation services, Two by Two is committed to honoring the human-animal bond with dignity and care.

Co-founded by two esteemed veterinarians, Dr. Joe Jesse Owens III and Dr. Johnathan Snead, and operated by Chief Operating Officer Ronnie Lee, Two by Two Pet Support was created to raise the standard of care and service for end-of-life and specialty pet needs.

The Two by Two team works tirelessly to ensure that every pet receives the same level of respect and comfort that any cherished family member deserves, right from the comfort of home.

Q: Tell me what sets Two by Two apart from others in the industry.

Ronnie: What sets Two by Two Pet Support apart is that we’re not just offering a service — we’re providing a complete support system designed around the real needs of pet owners, veterinary professionals and our own team members. Our focus is especially strong in the areas of end-of-life care and pet transportation, which are often underserved in this industry.

At the heart of our model is deep compassion and empathy. Every member of our team is not only professionally trained but also a passionate pet lover who understands the emotional weight of losing a companion. This personal experience allows us to meet our clients where they are — both emotionally and practically.

Our in-home euthanasia service is one of our most distinctive offerings. Unlike many providers, our veterinarians are always accompanied by a trained assistant. This added support allows the doctor to stay fully focused on both the procedure and the emotional needs of the pet parent. It’s part of our belief that no one should navigate this difficult moment alone — not the family, and not the veterinarian.

After the procedure, we take care of everything. We transport the pet’s remains to the crematorium and offer the owner a choice of communal or private cremation. What truly sets us apart is that we return the remains directly to the pet owner. This added step removes the emotional difficulty of returning to a veterinary clinic and provides a more personal and comforting experience.

We also support the veterinary community by offering pet transportation services for clients who are unable to bring their animals in themselves. Most clinics do not provide this option, and we fill that gap to ensure pets receive the medical care they need when they need it.

Ultimately, our mission is to support pet owners in being the heroes their animals believe they are — especially during life’s most difficult moments. We’re here to make sure no one has to go through that journey alone.

Q. Why the name? Is there a story behind the name? Please explain.

Ronnie: The name has several meanings. Our transport service draws inspiration from the biblical story of Noah’s Ark, where animals were transported ‘two by two.’ Essentially, we see ourselves as an ark on wheels dedicated to safely moving pets.

The name also pays homage to the two founding veterinarians working closely to support our community. When we respond to a call, we send two team members to perform the procedure and care for the pet and its owners.

Q: What specific services does the business provide?

Ronnie: Our emergency pet transport services are designed to respond quickly in critical situations. We use oxygen crates and follow strict sanitary protocols to ensure safe, secure transport for pets experiencing respiratory distress or other urgent medical conditions.

Our general pet transport offers climate-controlled, door-to-door service for routine vet visits, grooming appointments, relocations and more. We also provide airport pickup and drop-off for pets traveling with or without their families.

For after-life care, we offer two core services. First, we provide in-home euthanasia, where a licensed veterinarian and trained assistant come to your home and guide you through the process with compassion and professionalism. You choose the space where your pet feels most comfortable, and we create a peaceful, supportive environment throughout the experience.

Second, we pick up deceased pets directly from the home, followed by complete coordination of cremation services. Pet owners may choose between communal or private cremation, and we personally return the remains to the family. This allows pet parents to focus on grieving and honoring their pet while we handle the process with care and dignity.

Q. Why is having the services done in the home beneficial? Please explain.

Dr. Owens: Our mission is to ensure pets receive the love and respect they deserve. An in-home experience offers comfort and closure for the entire family. Surrounded by their loved ones in a familiar environment, pets can be cared for in their final moments, allowing everyone to say their goodbyes. We are committed to facilitating a peaceful transition through the highest quality medicine and compassionate care.

Q: How does your service work? How quickly can you respond to a client’s needs, especially if an animal is ill?

Ronnie: Our website offers immediate, holistic services. We receive notifications immediately after someone contacts us during our service hours, from 7 a.m. to midnight.

If clients have questions, they can call us for assistance or to schedule an appointment. We can deploy staff within two hours, ensuring a swift response to your needs. If you need us today, we will try to make it happen.

Q: What animals are eligible for your services?

Dr. Owens: We serve a variety of animals, including dogs and cats, pigs, goats, chickens and other exotics.

Q: What are the plans for growing the organization?

Ronnie: We are working diligently to gain a deeper understanding of our clients’ needs. Our goal is to continue building a comprehensive service that empowers pet owners to do the very best for their pets — through every stage of life.

Dr. Owens: Burnout impacts a high percentage of veterinarians, so we believe that once we roll out Two by Two nationally, it will be a good alternative for them to transition from general clinical practice to a different service in the pet industry.

Q: What do you want the community to know about your company?

Ronnie: Our mission is to provide compassionate support to pet owners and veterinary operations. We want the community to know that we are here for them.

Dr. Owens: We understand the importance of doing right by pet owners and their pets. With over 20 years of combined experience, Dr. Snead and I work hard to guide clients through the emotional journey of saying goodbye to their beloved pets. Trust us to care for your beloved animals with tenderness during difficult situations.

Q. Please give me a brief history of Two by Two. What led to its opening, and how has it evolved?

Dr. Owens: While operating our veterinary clinic, Dr. Snead and I saw the need for reliable transportation when animals needed emergency medical attention. We understood the plight of pet owners who couldn’t commit themselves to transporting their pets when they required overnight hospitalization.

So, in 2023, we launched Two by Two as a transportation company, initially designed to support veterinary clinics and operations. However, as we listened to the needs of pet owners and the veterinary community, we evolved into a comprehensive transportation service that covers a wide range of client needs.

We further saw a need to transport animals under oxygen, so we got approval from the Veterinary Board to perform the service. We can transport animals weighing 30 pounds or less in a kennel with supplemental oxygen.

Ronnie: We’ve continually expanded our services to meet our clients’ needs. Last year, we added in-home euthanasia after receiving numerous calls from people who wanted it.

We are deeply committed to supporting pet owners and offering a high-quality option for their pets. Our motto is, ‘If you want the best for your pet, call us. If you want anything else, call someone else.’ This commitment ensures our clients can always rely on us for the best care for their beloved pets.
