John Blackmon is the manager and broker of NV Capital Corp.
Q: What are you reading?
A: Currently reading a series of murder mysteries based in Palm Beach, Florida. The main character is Detective Charlie Crawford. I mainly read fiction in my spare time because I read so much technical material during the day.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant?
A: We really like the Tuscany Garden steakhouse on East Flamingo. Staff there is awesome, and the food is fairly priced. I used to go to any restaurant owned by Andre Rochat, but he is now in semi-retirement.
Q: Where do you work out, or play your favorite sport?
A: Canyon Gate Country Club is where I like to play golf. After not playing much golf the last few years, I am attempting to get back to a single-digit handicap. Unfortunately, the body doesn’t always do what the mind tells it to do!
Q: How do you decompress after a hard week?
A: Either at the golf course or quick trip out of state to watch our grandson play soccer. Tristan Blackmon plays Major League Soccer for the Vancouver Whitecaps and is the league’s highest draft pick ever from Nevada. He used to be on the Los Angeles roster but was traded to Vancouver a short time ago.
Q: What is the biggest challenge facing Las Vegas in the next five years?
A: It goes without saying that we have a water shortage in Lake Mead, and if that cannot be solved soon that will be our valley’s biggest issue. Future development and the valley’s expansion are dependent on our elected officials finding a way to get our share of the water coming out of the Colorado River.
