Reno law firm joins McDonald Carano

The five named partners at Reno-based boutique law firm Avansino, Melarkey, Knobel, Mulligan &McKenzie joined the Las Vegas firm of McDonald Carano on June 29.

“Joining McDonald Carano is a natural fit and the optimal next step for our firm,” Mark W. Knobel, shareholder and partner at Avansino, Melarkey, Knobel, Mulligan &McKenzie said in a statement. “With the partnership, our geographic reach will now span from Northern to Southern Nevada, offering our team the opportunity to provide our well-known and highly personalized service in a new market.”

The combination of law firms is expected to strengthen and expand McDonald Carano’s presence in Nevada.

Avansino, Melarkey, Knobel, Mulligan &McKenzie was founded in Northern Nevada in 1971 by Raymond C. Avansino Jr.

The merger brings combined strengths in estate and trust, business transaction and tax law. It also expands McDonald Carano’s practice areas by offering charitable planning services to its clients.

Our mutual respect for each other’s firms, along with our professional and practice goals, are a natural fit,” McDonald Carano, managing partner John Frankovich said in a statement. “The partnership is a right fit at the right time and consistent with our mutual objectives to best service our clients.”

McDonald Carano acquired Avansino, Melarkey, Knobel, Mulligan &McKenzie after more than a year of negotiations.

Michael J. Melarkey, John B. Mulligan, Lance N. McKenzie, Knobel and Avansino joined McDonald Carano from Avansino, Melarkey, Knobel, Mulligan &McKenzie.
