Cox Communications, one of the largest, private non-gaming companies in Nevada, is bringing its fiber network to Laughlin and Cal-NevAri in southern Clark County.
In partnership with Nevada Governor Joseph Lombardo and the state’s Office of Science, Innovation and Technology (OSIT) under the direction of Brian Mitchell, some $8.1 million will be made in technology investments and upgrades in between both communities.
The funding comes from the American Rescue Plan’s Capital Project Funds (CPF), which provided $10 billion to help states address critical needs for access to high-speed internet infrastructure that became heightened during the public health emergency created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Access to high-speed internet improves lives and the economic strength of communities,” said Cox Las Vegas Market Vice President Janet Uthman. “No matter where one chooses to live, they should have access to, and be able to afford a broadband connection. We’re honored Gov. Lombardo and OSIT are trusting Cox to bring fiber internet to Laughlin and Cal-Nev-Ari.”
Cox has served Southern Nevada since 1998 when the company acquired the assets of the former Prime Cable. Over the past 27 years, Cox has invested millions into its network that covers more than 12,000 miles in Clark County and has established a legacy of community giving, volunteerism and technology access for all.
“Bringing Cox’s fiber internet to Laughlin and Cal-Nev-Ari is a major milestone for the southernmost areas of District A,” said Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft. “This investment not only enhances connectivity but also boosts local business development, improves education access and strengthens the quality of life for our residents.”
