Annual Cox Charities Golf Tournament nets $60,000 for local nonprofits

Family Promise of Las Vegas, Obodo Collective, Project 150 and Shine A Light Foundation each received a $15,000 donation from Cox Charities, the fundraising arm of Cox Las Vegas at the annual Cox Charities Golf Tournament, Oct. 20 at DragonRidge Country Club in Henderson.

The $60,000 combined donation was made possible by the generous support of the event sponsors, including presenting sponsor Findlay Automotive.

“Charitable giving is a Findlay Automotive cornerstone,” said Chief Accounting Officer Chad Leavitt. “We are proud to support the annual Cox Charities Golf Tournament and help raise funds to support local nonprofits.”

“We’re grateful to be able to bring together vendors, clients and partners to raise funds for nonprofits whose work is important to our community, said Cox Director of Hospitality Operations Joe Peeples, who along with Cox Director of Field Operations Alan Livengood, co-chaired the event

— For more than 30 years, Family Promise of Las Vegas has worked to help children and their families break the cycle of homelessness and return to sustainable employment and housing. Through a combination of grants, donations and support of social service agencies, property owners and congregations of all faiths, the nonprofit provides temporary and long-term housing solutions for families in crisis throughout Clark County.

— The mission of Odobo Collective is to create pathways to prosperity by addressing food insecurity, housing stability, education and economic mobility in Las Vegas’ Historic Westside. Odobo Collective operates an urban farm, greengrocer, and family-centered programs that provide access to fresh produce, gardening classes and resource navigation.

Project 150 provides free support and services to homeless, displaced and disadvantaged high school students so they can remain in school, graduate and build bright futures. The organization also has a scholarship program to assist students with higher education goals.

Shine A Light is dedicated to finding and transforming the lives of homeless individuals in Clark County, including those who live in underground tunnels. The nonprofit partners with organizations and social service agencies to provide continuity in case management and resources to support individuals and help them achieve long-term stability and housing.

Cox Charities is a voluntary workplace giving program that has awarded more than $3.2 million in charitable grants to nonprofit organizations/agencies in Southern Nevada over the past 18 years. Grants are targeted toward nonprofit programs that focus on STEM in K-12 education, environmental sustainability, housing and food insecurity.
