Dr. Brendan Johnson, the co-founder of Nevada Oral and Facial Surgery, has been appointed to the Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners. Johnson was nominated by Gov. Brian Sandoval to be the oral and maxillofacial surgeon on the board.
In his new role, Johnson will help protect the dental health interests of Nevadans by working to develop and maintain programs which ensure only qualified professionals are licensed to practice dentistry and dental hygiene.
He will also help ensure that those who violate the laws regulating the dental and dental hygiene professions are sanctioned appropriately. Johnson has previously been appointed to the Anesthesia Evaluation Committee, of which he is now the chairman, and the Southern Nevada Peer Review Board.
He is the past president of the Southern Nevada Dental Society, a member of the American Dental Association Political Action Committee and the Legislative Committee of the Nevada Dental Association.
Students earn honors, trip to D.C.
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism, named James Lea, 17, and Marquis Jamison, 13, both of Las Vegas, as Nevada’s top two youth volunteers of 2016. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, now in its 21st year, is conducted by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
As state honorees, each will receive $1,000, an engraved silver medallion and an all-expense-paid trip in early May to Washington, D.C., where they will join the top two honorees from each of the other states and the District of Columbia for four days of national recognition events.
MGM Resorts International honored
The Water Conservation Coalition presented a Water Hero award to MGM Resorts International in recognition of the company’s ongoing commitment to water conservation practices. John Entsminger, Southern Nevada Water Authority general manager, presented the award to Jim Murren, chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts, on behalf of the Water Conservation Coalition.
Over the past five years, MGM Resorts’ company-wide water conservation efforts have saved more than 800 million gallons of water, enough to fill nearly 40,000 average residential swimming pools. The award was presented as part of a commemorative event to open MGM Resorts’ newest outdoor attraction, The Park.
