• The Secure Community Network, the official safety and security organization for the Jewish community in North America, announced the hiring of Ken Mead as the regional security advisor for Nevada, the official security liaison for Jewish Nevada.

In this role, Mead will oversee the safety and security of approximately 70,000 Jewish residents and over 47 distinct facilities across the state. Additionally, he will administer the Federation’s community security programs, providing consultations, building and organizational assessments, training and drills, threat mitigation for Jewish organizations, and response coordination for critical incidents.

“Ken Mead brings exceptional law enforcement and security expertise to SCN’s mission of protecting Jewish communities,” said SCN National Director and CEO Michael Masters. “With his extensive background in counterterrorism, threat assessment and local law enforcement, Ken will be a tremendous asset in strengthening security and safety across Nevada’s Jewish communities.”

Prior to joining SCN, Mead served as regional prevention coordinator for Terrorism and Targeted Violence for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. For 26 years, he served in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, including serving on the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force and program coordinator for LVMPD’s Threat Assessment Program for Targeted Violence (TAP). He concurrently served as the terrorism liaison to the Nevada legislative session in 2022-2023 and the LVMPD liaison to Interpol, coordinating international law enforcement requests in Southern Nevada.

“Ken Mead brings a wealth of experience that will undoubtedly elevate our security efforts and safety culture. We look forward to benefiting from his knowledge and leadership as we continue to build a safer and stronger community throughout the state of Nevada,” said Abbie Friedman, chair of the Executive Security Committee for Jewish Nevada.

“We are thrilled to have Ken join our Federation and statewide community as our new regional security advisor,” said Jewish Nevada President and CEO Stefanie Tuzman. “With the dramatic increase in antisemitic incidents and acts of hate since Oct. 7, Jewish communal security has never been more important. Ken’s tremendous knowledge, expertise and local law enforcement relationships and partnerships will help keep our state safe and secure.”

This hiring was made possible by SCN, local donors, community partners and national donors through the LiveSecure Campaign. The Jewish Federations of North America’s $130 million LiveSecure campaign is the largest philanthropic initiative in history to establish a standards-based collective security framework for every Jewish community across North America.

Jewish Nevada is part of a large and growing network of Jewish federations and communities that have partnered with SCN to launch or build upon existing community-wide security programs designed around an “all threats, all hazards” approach to preparedness, safety, security and resiliency. Each program is connected to SCN’s national operations, providing direct access to SCN’s National Jewish Security Operations Command Center and Duty Desk, as well as best-practice security resources and support related to policies, procedures, physical security, facility assessments, training, and incident response.

Jewish Nevada is Nevada’s Jewish Federation, serving as the representative organization for the 70,000 Jews in Nevada. It is the only organization charged with assessing and addressing the needs of the entire community. Jewish Nevada works diligently to build a vibrant community and sustain Jewish life throughout Nevada, Israel and around the world. It is committed to the values of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world); Tzedakah (righteousness and philanthropy); and G’milut Hasadim (acts of kindness and service).

The Secure Community Network (SCN), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is the official safety and security organization of the Jewish community in North America. Founded in 2004 under the auspices of The Jewish Federations of North America and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, SCN serves as the central organization dedicated exclusively to the safety and security of the American Jewish community, working across 146 federations, 50 partner organizations, over 300 independent communities, and other partners in the public, private, nonprofit and academic sectors.
