OnTrac moving delivery operation to Henderson

Regional package delivery giant OnTrac is moving its Las Vegas facility to Henderson.

The facility at 551 Courier St. triples OnTrac’s space, from 42,000 square feet to 130,000, and expands its loading dock capacity. The Henderson facility has six unload and 14 load dock doors that will allow additional truck loads to move more efficiently in and out of the facility.

“It’s a very exciting time to be at OnTrac,” said Las Vegas general manager Shawn Rush. “The facility move to Henderson will allow for service improvements and efficiencies while creating a better work environment for all employees. Plus, the growth in Nevada alone will allow for OnTrac to expand upon our services while providing employment opportunities for the Henderson community.”

The company is the largest regional package delivery company in the United States.

OnTrac said it may be hiring new employees to fill the facility. At the Las Vegas facility there are 63 employees, while dispatching 61 service providers.

BuildZoom funding

BuildZoom, a San Francisco-based startup that uses building department and licensing information to analyze construction trends in cities nationwide, including Las Vegas, secured a $10.6 million Series A funding round led by a Silicon Valley technology investment firm, Formation 8, with participation from Y Combinator and Founders Fund.

The investment from Y Combinator, which provides seed money, advice and connections to startups in exchange for equity, represents one of BuildZoom’s largest investments to date.

By collecting information on all licensed contractors from the state and permit data from cities and counties, BuildZoom builds profiles on contractors. Users who access BuildZoom can explain what their projects are, and the site then connects users with qualified contractors based on permit information and user opinions.

“Until BuildZoom, people haven’t had a single source they could completely trust when it came time to remodel their home or build a new one,” David Petersen, CEO and co-founder of BuildZoom, said in a statement. “We’re taking all the pain out of the process and dramatically improving outcomes for people in one of the largest sectors of the US economy.”

Since it emerged from Y Combinator in 2013, BuildZoom has helped more than 12 million annual users.

Joe Lonsdale, founder and general partner at Formation 8, will join Petersen and co-founder and president, Jiyan Wei, on BuildZoom’s board of directors.

“BuildZoom is one of my favorite teams, and we love their approach to making the contracting and remodeling industry work better,” Lonsdale said in a statement. “This is a huge part of our economy and David, Jiyan and team are using clever data science and an innovative platform to protect consumers, help contractors, and meaningfully improve one of the biggest markets in the world.”
