LVGEA gives support on fuel tax

The board of directors of the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance, a membership organization dedicated to expanding Southern Nevada’s economy and connectivity, unanimously approved a resolution supporting the proposed decadelong extension of Clark County’s fuel revenue indexing.

“From an economic development standpoint, supporting critical infrastructure needs is imperative in our mission to grow the economy in Southern Nevada,” Global Economic Alliance President and CEO Jonas Peterson said. “By supporting this ballot initiative and ensuring the Regional Transportation Commission gets the support they need to continue improving our transportation systems and infrastructure, our entire community, including our ability to create new jobs, will be positively impacted for generations.”

The measure is to go on the ballot in Clark County this November.

“We applaud the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance’s continued support and commitment to invest in our transportation infrastructure,” Regional Transportation Commission General Manager Tina Quigley said.

The Clark County Commission approved fuel revenue indexing to run from January 2014 to December of this year. If extended, the funding measure is set to raise about $3 billion and fund about half of the 346 projects that lack funding around the valley.

Law firm offers free advice through social media

Las Vegas-based Morris Law Center recently launched a new way to market its brand and help the community simultaneously.

In a weekly broadcast through Facebook, center co-founders Brian Morris and Sarah Morris give legal advice and answer questions of those attending.

“We want to be a household name in the Las Vegas Valley. … To do that, we needed a way to connect with the community and offer them value for their attention instead of shouting at them through ads on TV and radio,” Brian Morris said. “Offering legal advice on Facebook Live is the perfect way to do that.”

The group launched in Las Vegas in 2015.

“(This) gives us an opportunity to connect directly with the audience that cares about and needs us the most,” Brian Morris said in a statement. “There are a lot of people in the community that need basic legal advice without commitment or a massive fee.

“Our goal is to connect with and provide a service to the community,” he added. “We also hope to build the trust necessary to earn future business when free advice is not enough.”

The duo is live at 4 p.m. Thursdays and discusses several topics, from preventing business litigation to credit repair.

“We always have a topic to cover but answering questions is our primary focus during the broadcasts,” Brian Morris said. “We are happy to accept suggestions for future topics as well.”
