MJ Christensen Diamonds will once again host a Diamond Dig to benefit Dress for Success Southern Nevada, the local nonprofit that empowers women to achieve economic independence, from 5 to 7 p.m., Sept. 8 at Boca Park, 8980 W. Charleston Blvd. This annual event is free to the public. Guests will be invited to purchase “scoops” from a sandbox, giving them the opportunity to uncover and win gemstones that correspond to great prizes, such as spa packages, a designer handbag, dining certificates and more.

Backpacks 4 Class Acts drive aids

underserved students

Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth has established a school supplies closet for homeless youth to get what they need for back-to-school preparation. Donations to the Backpacks 4 Class Acts drive, including backpacks, notepads, pens, pencils and gently used clothes, can be taken to the NPHY Drop-In Center, 4981 Shirley St., near UNLV. Cox Charities distribute $140k

to 31 nonprofits

Cox Charities, the employee workplace giving program at Cox Las Vegas, conducted its ninth annual check presentation Aug. 9 at Texas Station Hotel, presenting $140,000 to 31 local nonprofits, bringing the sum total of funds generated through the workplace giving campaign to $1,292,234 since 2007. Individual awards ranged from $1,500 to $5,000.

Home Run Derby program benefits physically challenged

Miracle League of Las Vegas hosts its third annual Home Run Derby from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sept. 24, at the Engelstad Family Park &Ball Field, 101 S. Rancho Drive. REALTORS partner with Boys &Girls Clubs to deliver school supplies

Realtors teamed with Boys &Girls Clubs throughout Nevada to donate backpacks stocked with school supplies for students served by the clubs.

The August drive was organized by the Nevada Association of Realtors and its LeadershipNVAR Class of 2016.

Realtors visited five local Boys &Girls Clubs, including Desert Pines Clubhouse, James Clubhouse, Lied Clubhouse, John C. Kish Clubhouse and Ralph and Betty Engelstad Clubhouse, to deliver more than 1,000 fully stocked backpacks to children.
