The UNLV football program has gone all in on the Las Vegas theme, which includes new Vegas-themed uniforms and Vegas-themed turf at Sam Boyd Stadium, the home of the Rebels.
The latest improvement to Sam Boyd Stadium is a field wall mural, which is a large banner that will go around the bowl of the stadium. The banner was created and installed by Screaming Images of Henderson.
The banner celebrates Rebels football, its sponsors and includes the Vegas-themed icons that are part of this season’s graphic campaign. The mural is done in red and gray – UNLV’s official school colors, according to James Swanson of Screaming Images.
“They’ve never had one out there before,” Swanson said. “They just did renovations to the whole stadium. They widened the field and added a whole new paint scheme on the field. That stadium is going to look great on opening day.”
That was Saturday when the Rebels played UCLA, one of the early-season favorites to compete for the Pac-12 South title.
While this may be the first time printing and installing a banner at Sam Boyd Stadium, Screaming Images has plenty of experience installing these banners on football fields.
Screaming Images does similar work with the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, San Diego Chargers and Washington Redskins. The company also works with UFC, professional sports franchises in Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association, and numerous NCAA schools.
While the company mainly prints and installs the banners, sometimes Screaming Images also designs the banner.
“For the Panthers, we designed the cat’s eyes in the end zone,” Swanson said. “We did that like 15 years ago.”
The company also installed the banners for the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight.
