Bank of America Las Vegas president Al Welch hand-delivered 15 grants totaling $192,000 to Southern Nevada nonprofits that provide workforce development and educational opportunities to help local residents succeed in today’s evolving workforce.
Receiving the grants are Communities in Schools of Nevada, Southern Nevada Public Television, Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow, Discovery Children’s Museum and Teach for America, among others.
The grants are part of Bank of America’s broader strategy to build a thriving economy in Las Vegas as well advance better money habits in the community.
Runnin’ for the House raises more than $65K
The 12th annual Runnin’ for the House 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk, presented by McDonald’s of Greater Las Vegas, raised more than $65,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas. Ronald McDonald and Steph Mackenzie from 97.1 the Point radio lead more than 1,050 runners and walkers through the April 16 festivities.
Southwest Medical Associates brought in the largest team ever to participate in this event, with 519 participants, doubling their participation from last year and taking home the Runnin’ for the House Team Trophy.
Agencies partner on revitalization project
Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada and commercial real estate agency CBRE provided more than $10,000 worth of revitalization services to the animal lab and gardening programs at Mabel Hoggard Math &Science Elementary Magnet School.
CBRE developed the project plan, which included demolishing and rebuilding garden beds with irrigation and new fill, installing new fencing and shade materials for the outdoor animal area, weeding, and cleaning the animal lab areas and supplies. Approximately 50 volunteers from CBRE and various vendors carried out the project.
The effort provides rejuvenated outdoor and indoor infrastructure for programs that offer hands-on opportunities for students to learn about hard work, responsibility and ownership.
Kirkpatrick, Anderson Dairy to be honored at chefs gala
The 25th annual Chefs for Kids Gala, a black-tie optional event themed Champagne and Roses, will beging at 5:30 p.m. May 7 at South Point. Chefs for Kids will present individual and corporate awards to County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick and Anderson Dairy. Kirkpatrick will receive the Legacy award for her support of Chefs for Kids. Anderson Dairy will receive the Corporate Award for its continued assistance in furthering its nutrition education program.
Chefs for Kids, in partnership with the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and ACF Chefs of Las Vegas, provides a year-long nutrition education program to Nevada students in at-risk schools.
The program aims to teach children about the benefits of healthy food and physical activity. Volunteers donate more than 3,000 hours yearly to prepare and serve 9,000 breakfasts for children in 13 Clark County Schools each year, and raise funds to support this program.
Chefs for Kids is in its 26th year and has reached more than 54,200 students since its inception. Tickets are $195 per person; $1,850 for a table of 10; $1600 for a table of 8. Auto association donates van to Three Square
The National Automobile Dealers Association has donated a new delivery van to Three Square Food Bank. In a ceremony held at Three Square, association Chairman Bill Fox gave the keys to the delivery van, valued at $52,000, to Brian Burton, the nonprofit’s president and CEO.
The delivery van will support Three Square’s mission to provide food to more than 305,000 people who are at risk of hunger in Southern Nevada.
Three Square will use the truck for its childhood nutrition delivery route, which includes Kids Cafe and the BackPack for Kids programs, and for its summer food service program, Meet Up and Eat Up.
Fremont Street Experience to host Race for the Cure
Fremont Street Experience will host the 21st annual Susan G. Komen Las Vegas Race for the Cure May 7. Individuals can participate in a 5K or a 1-mile Fun Walk.
Registration starts at 6 a.m.; the race begins at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Clark Avenue at 8:15 a.m., finishing at the intersection of Fremont East and 6th Street. SlotZilla will donate 100 percent of all revenue generated after the race to benefit Susan G. Komen Nevada.
The SlotZilla Charity Challenge hosted in March to benefit the Animal Foundation resulted in Fremont Street Experience presenting the organization with a check for $15,742.
Right Now Air delivers in annual Tark Toy drive
Right Now Air, a provider of HVAC repair and service in the valley, participated in the second annual Tark Toy Drive to benefit children in hospitals suffering from strokes, injuries and other illnesses.
Right Now Air donated nearly 100 stuffed animals while at Children’s Hospital of Nevada University Medical Center, April 8.
The drive was established to help spread the message that strokes can happen at any age, to encourage people to talk with their doctors about early warning signs of strokes and raise awareness.
Helix Electric donates to three local charities
Electrical contractor Helix Electric has donated $4,700 to three local charities — Down Syndrome Organization of Southern Nevada, A Home 4 Spot Animal Rescue and 22 Warriors Foundation.
These charities were chosen by Helix employees. The donations were a result of raising funds in the Helix Electric annual spring golf tournament at Badlands Golf Club.
Nathan Adelson Hospice fundraiser set for May 13
Nathan Adelson Hospice will hold its annual Flair for Care Fashion Show May 13 in partnership with Saks Fifth Avenue at Wynn Las Vegas.
The reception starts at 10:30 a.m., and the fashion show, featuring the fall collection of designer Veronica Etro, begins at 11:30 a.m.
The event serves as a major fundraiser for the hospice’s uncompensated care program. Each year, Nathan Adelson Hospice provides more than $1 million in uncompensated care to individuals. Tickets are $250 per person.

Lamar Advertising gift targets youth homelessness
Lamar Advertising Co. has partnered with Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth to bring awareness about youth homelessness facing Southern Nevada and the partnership’s Safe Place mobile crisis intervention program. The Lamar donation, valued at almost $150,000, will help the partnership by displaying digital ads on 29 rotating billboards in high traffic areas over four weeks. Also, two vinyl billboards will be placed in locations with high numbers of homeless youth. The vinyl billboards will be near Rancho High School and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for a year. Following the four-week run, Lamar will display digital messaging for partnership initiatives such as its drive to provide hot meals for homeless kids during the holidays.
Miracle Flight event raises funds to help
Miracle Flights, the nation’s leading nonprofit health and welfare flight organization, will join forces with local influencers including The Refined Agency, RAW Fitness, and Cirrus Aviation on May 14 to bring awareness to Miracle Flights and the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth’s 4969 Retrofit Project. The fundraising event, “The Dream Flight,” will feature live music, celebrity appearances and more. Each ticket purchased will grant the attendee a chance to win a seat on the Dream Flight, a private jet West Coast foodie tour traveling from Las Vegas, San Francisco and Seattle. Three Square campaign to Bag Childhood Hunger
Contributions made to Three Square Food Bank through May 31 will have double the impact thanks to the Bennett Family Foundation’s $500,000 pledge to match gifts toward the food bank’s fifth annual Bag Childhood Hunger initiative. Joining the Bennett Family Foundation as sponsors are Barrick Gold Corp. and NV Energy Foundation. One in four children in Southern Nevada suffer from food insecurity. The Bag Childhood Hunger campaign will directly impact Three Square’s childhood nutrition programs, including BackPack for Kids, Kids Cafe, Meet Up and Eat Up and FaVE! National Security Technologies staff pledges to United Way
Employees of National Security Technologies LLC pledged more than $207,000 to the United Way of Southern Nevada for 2016. The company also made a $10,000 donation, part of its commitment to helping those in need. Money pledged will assist United Way, its affiliated agencies, and other nonprofits throughout Southern Nevada. National Security Technologies’ participation rate in pledging includes more than 75 leadership donors, or those who pledge a minimum of $1,000 throughout the year.
Ross Stores, Boys &Girls Clubs to enhance programs for kids
Boys &Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada and Ross Stores are partnering to support the Club’s Power Hour program, an interactive after-school homework assistance program for members 6 to 18 years old. Boys &Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada Power Hour program offers youth support in developing a positive attitude about learning and the importance of high school graduation. The partnership with Ross Stores will help to make the program an effective tool by providing staff training and resources. Local Ross store employees will have an opportunity to volunteer at Boys &Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada. Power Hour is one of Boys &Girls Clubs of America’s top national programs supporting academic success.
Blue Man Group supports autism foundation
Blue Man Group at Luxor continues its partnership with Grant a Gift Autism Foundation for the second consecutive year by hosting a sensory-friendly show, suitable for children with autism spectrum disorders at 4 p.m. June 12. Tickets are $36; net proceeds from the event will go directly to the foundation. The partnership is part of Blue Man Group’s efforts to support autism programs, with a minimum donation of $25,000 given to the cause. Last year, Blue Man Group gifted more than $11,000 through ticket and sponsorship revenue. The fastest-growing developmental disorder in the United States, autism affects 1 in 68 children and 1 in 42 boys.
Crazy Pita makes donation to St. Jude
Crazy Pita Rotisserie &Grill donated $1,685 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The money was raised through a donation drive they hosted during March at all three Crazy Pita locations.
