New skilled nursing facility begins construction in Centennial Hills
SR Construction has started construction of the Centennial Hills Skilled Nursing Facility on 8565 W. Rome Blvd.
The new building broke ground on Jan. 25 and has an estimated completion date of early 2019.
The 42,327-square-foot project will hold 72 beds and offer continued care for patients transitioning from acute care to assisted living. The Centennial Hills Skilled Nursing Facility will use open floor plans that will bring natural light and views of the outdoors to the patients to create a comfortable and homelike atmosphere.
Immunization champions honored
Immunize Nevada announces its celebration of immunization and health excellence at the 20th Annual Silver Syringe Awards and Fundraiser in Las Vegas and Reno in conjunction with National Infant Immunization Week on April 21-28.
Southern Nevada winners will celebrate April 26 at 6 p.m. at the DragonRidge Country Club in MacDonald Highlands; while northern Nevada winners will be honored April 19 at 6 p.m. at the Nevada Museum of Art. HPV cancer survivor Jason Mendelsohn will deliver the keynote address at the Las Vegas event, telling his story about his stage IV diagnosis at the age of 44. Author and parent advocate Mikalee Byerman is the keynote speaker at the Reno event, sharing her personal experience with this season’s flu and how she almost lost her daughter to it.
The Silver Syringe Awards and Fundraiser is a night to celebrate one of health care’s greatest accomplishments — immunizations. This fundraiser and awards dinner toasts trailblazers in preventative health and pays a special tribute to the winners and honorees who are on the forefront of Nevada’s immunization successes.
Event sponsorships are still available and provide an opportunity to support not only immunization efforts, but healthy communities across the state. The event draws nearly 500 health care professionals and physicians, nonprofit directors and community partners in Northern and Southern Nevada. Proceeds benefit Immunize Nevada’s life-saving programs and outreach efforts.
“Silver Syringe is a prestigious award and the only award that celebrates immunization champions in Nevada,” said Immunize Nevada Executive Director Heidi Parker. “The events at both ends of the state give us the opportunity to recognize passionate individuals and organizations that are committed to making Nevada a healthier state. We invite everyone to join the cause and the fun by purchasing a ticket, becoming a sponsor, or donating to the raffle.”

FirstMed Health and Wellness Center opens third Clinic
FirstMed Health and Wellness Center is a federally qualified health center that provides comprehensive preventative and primary health and mental health services to low-income and under-served families in Southern Nevada. The group of clinics serves nearly 11,000 patients. It opened its third clinic at 3940 N. Martin Luther King Blvd., Suite 105, in North Las Vegas, on Feb. 28. While the facility is dedicated to primary care, it also will have a behavioral health component for adults, adolescents and children.
Founded in 2009 as a National Health Service Corp site, part of a network of partners dedicated to providing care in communities with limited access to health care, FirstMed provides primary care on a discounted-fee basis to those who are uninsured, undocumented or are covered by Medicaid.
According to FirstMed CEO Angela Quinn, there are more than 27,000 indigent and low-income patients within a 5-mile radius of the new North Las Vegas clinic, so the organization expects to significantly and immediately grow its patient numbers.
