Grant to Three Square is largest of year

As part of the Restaurant Community Grants program from the Darden Restaurants Foundation, Three Square Food Bank has been selected by local Olive Garden restaurants to receive an $8,000 grant, the largest awarded in 2015.

Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada will hold its fifth annual poker tournament and VIP party from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 30 at Aria and the Deuce Lounge, 3730 Las Vegas Blvd. South. All net proceeds, including admission, table sales, buy-ins and raffle tickets, will be donated to Junior Achievement’s local chapter.

Participant buy-in is $250 per person, with the grand prize being a seat in the 2015 World Series of Poker’s Main Event. Spectator and party passes are $100 prior to the event and $150 at the door.

History education grant awarded to UNLV

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas has received an education grant of $15,000 from the Nevada 150 Foundation. The grant will support graduate interns completing their history requirements and sharing their research with teachers and students. The interns will nominate significant historic sites throughout Nevada for inclusion in the National Park Service Teaching with Historic Places program.

Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth gets gift

Jack Link’s Protein Snacks donated 2,000 sack lunches and 6,000 hygiene kits to Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth during a volunteer project May 5 at the SLS Las Vegas. This was the largest donation of resource items received by Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth. The donation will help the organization provide meals and hygiene materials.

Communities in Schools to host cookout May 30

Communities in Schools of Nevada, in partnership with radio station KWNR-FM (95.5) The Bull, will host its first CIS Country Cookout on The Green at Town Square from 5 to 8 p.m. May 30. The barbecue will raise money for the Nevada chapter of the dropout prevention and intervention program. Tickets are $25 for adults; $15 for children. To purchase, visit cisnevada.org.

Susan G. Komen Foundation nets $3,100

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation received $3,100 from a fundraiser sponsored by MDL Group, a Southern Nevada commercial real estate services provider, who dedicated the month of April to reaching its goal of $2,000.

Fremont Street Experience aids Muscular Dystrophy

Fremont Street Experience partnered with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Firefighters of Southern Nevada for a SlotZilla Charity Challenge. On April 16, all SlotZilla revenue went to the association — $6,800.
