United Way of Southern Nevada’s (UWSN) Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) has announced that it invested a record-breaking $543,114 into the community to change lives and help families break the cycle of poverty.
With the new school year set to begin in August, many students are still in need of new athletic shoes and supplies to help get them off on the right foot. This year, The Rogers Foundation and Assistance League of Las Vegas gear up for the new school year with the Heart to Sole new athletic shoe and school supply drive to benefit the Operation School Bell campaign.
Nevada Realtors are working with Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the state to collect school supplies for students served by the clubs.
As part of its employee charitable giving campaign, Fuel for Life, Southwest Gas presented a check in the amount of $3,793.51 to Travis Crowder, chief professional officer for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley. Employees selected Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley as a nonprofit of choice in Fuel for Life for the program’s two-year giving cycle for 2017-2018.
New furnishings, paint, cabinets, kitchens, flooring and many other home improvements greeted Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth clients when they returned home from school and work recently. The renovations and upgrades to eight NPHY Independent Living Program residences and two NPHY Emergency Shelters were made through the generosity of associates and business partners of Keller Williams Realty Las Vegas to the nonprofit’s aging properties.
Southwest Gas Vice President-Regulation and Public Affairs Justin Brown, along with other members of the Southwest Gas team, joined Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth representatives and youth clients at the nonprofit’s Drop-In Center to present a donation of more than $50,000 to support the organization’s continued battle against youth homelessness.

City National has announced that it has provided Three Square Food Bank with a $5,000 donation for this year’s Bag Childhood Hunger Program. The funds from City National’s donation will be matched by the Bennett Family Foundation, which will provide funding for 40,000 meals to families and children in Southern Nevada who are food insecure and hungry. Three Square’s mission is to provide wholesome food to hungry people, while passionately pursuing a hunger-free community. They combine food banking (warehousing canned and boxed goods), food rescue (obtaining surplus or unused meats, bread, dairy and produce from hospitality and grocery outlets), and ready-to- eat meals to be the most complete food solution for Southern Nevada.
MGM Resorts International and Bank of America came together to build a Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas home on Toshiba Plaza in celebration of T-Mobile Arena’s first anniversary. More than 150 volunteers from Bank of America and MGM Resorts were working all day to construct the framework of a Habitat Las Vegas townhome. Following the build, partner executives, including Bill Hornbuckle and Phyllis A. James of MGM Resorts International, expressed their gratitude to the community for making the arena’s first year a success. Remarks were given by Dan Giraldo from Bank of America, as well as Mike Borden and Douglas Coombs from Habitat Las Vegas who thanked MGM Resorts International and T-Mobile Arena for their support and commitment to the community. The completed townhome framework will remain on Toshiba Plaza throughout the weekend before it is transported to Henderson, where Habitat Las Vegas already has completed 29 homes.
